Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 2-stroke and 4-stroke motorcycle oil?
2-stroke oil is designed to mix with fuel and burn during combustion, lubricating moving parts quickly. 4-stroke oil circulates through the engine like in a car, providing long-term lubrication. Each engine type requires its specific oil for proper performance and protection—never substitute one for the other.
What does JASO MA or JASO FD mean?
JASO is a Japanese standard for motorcycle oils. MA indicates the oil is suitable for wet clutch systems in 4-stroke bikes, while FD refers to high-performance 2-stroke oil with low smoke and high detergency. Always select oil with the correct JASO rating for your engine.
Can I switch from mineral to synthetic motorcycle oil?
Yes, switching from mineral to synthetic oil is safe if the oil meets your engine’s specifications. Synthetic oils can offer improved protection and longer intervals between changes. It’s often best to fully drain the old oil and possibly change the filter when making the switch.
